Late one night, a call came from an unknown number. It didn’t take a genius to guess it was Olivia.
“Jojo… why? Why are you doing this to me? We were best friends! How could you?”
Even now, she was still (interrogating) me.
“What should I have done? Stayed your personal blood bag, letting you suck me dry? Even after you slandered me online, I should have considered your feelings?”
Olivia sobbed. “But friends are supposed to help each other!”
“We stopped being friends a long time ago.”
She just couldn’t understand how things had come to this.
“Ever since I started dating Evan, you changed…” After a hesitant pause, Olivia delivered what she thought was a killer blow. “Are you… in love with Evan?”
“Go to hell!” I finally lost my cool and cursed. “Boy crazy bitches deserve to die, you get that? GET THAT?! Enjoy being penniless! You dumbass!”
Of course, the last part was just me venting. It was unlikely they’d get serious jail time, but my lawyer assured me we could secure a hefty financial settlement and a public apology. Combined with the lawsuits from the agency they’d signed with, it was enough to make life very difficult for the “star-crossed lovers.”
But that was no longer my concern.
Later, I heard the final chapter of Olivia and Evan’s story from Samantha.
“You’ll never believe what happened to Olivia and Evan,” Samantha said, her expression a mix of disgust and disbelief. “Evan, needing money, put their… uh… private videos… behind a paywall online. And Olivia… she actually went along with it! They started a paid subscription group together. And then… they got arrested for distributing obscene material. Both got sentenced to a few years.”
Samantha shook her head in amazement. “I mean, Olivia, for all her flaws, graduated from a decent university. If she’d just worked steadily and stayed away from a lowlife like Evan, how could she have ended up like this?”
Who can understand the boy-crazy?
Maybe in her mind, all this was just trials and tribulations for her “epic love story,” bitter but sweet.
Who knows? Maybe she was just cursed.
I looked towards the door, where Ryan stood holding boba tea, giving me a warm smile. I couldn’t help but smile back.
In this life, Olivia’s own demons were hers to face.
Whether she and Evan rotted in jail or became fugitives, from now on, it had nothing to do with me, Jojo.
(The End)
