Chapter 2: New Beginnings

The welcome ceremony was held in the Grand Auditorium, a magnificent hall with vaulted ceilings and stained glass windows that cast colorful patterns on the assembled students. Headmistress Blackwood, a tall woman with silver hair and sharp eyes, addressed the new students with a speech that was both inspiring and intimidating.

"At Blackwood Academy, we don't just teach you facts and figures," she declared, her voice echoing through the hall. "We shape the leaders of tomorrow. We challenge you to think beyond the ordinary, to push the boundaries of what's possible, and to never settle for less than your best."

Sarah sat in the middle of the auditorium, surrounded by hundreds of other new students. She felt small and insignificant, but also filled with a burning determination to prove herself.

After the ceremony, Emma led Sarah to her dormitory room. It was a small but cozy space with two beds, two desks, and a window that overlooked the campus gardens. Her roommate had already arrived — a quiet girl named Lily who seemed more interested in her books than in conversation.

"Nice to meet you," Sarah said, extending her hand.

Lily glanced up briefly, shook Sarah's hand with a weak grip, and returned to her book without a word.

Emma rolled her eyes. "Don't mind Lily. She's always like that. Give her time."

That evening, Sarah attended her first dinner in the dining hall. The room was vast, with long wooden tables and benches that reminded her of something from a medieval castle. The food was amazing — far better than anything she had ever tasted in Willowbrook.

"So, where are you from?" asked a boy sitting across from her. He had dark hair and warm brown eyes.

"Willowbrook," Sarah replied. "It's a small town about six hours from here by train."

"I've never heard of it," the boy admitted. "I'm Michael, by the way. I'm from London."

"London? That's exciting," Sarah said, feeling a bit envious of someone who came from such a famous city.

Michael shrugged. "It's okay, I guess. But Blackwood is where I really want to be. My father and grandfather both attended this school."

Sarah nodded, understanding the pressure that must come with such a legacy. "What do you want to study?"

"Medicine," Michael said without hesitation. "I want to become a doctor and help people. What about you?"

Sarah thought for a moment. "I'm not sure yet. I've always loved reading and writing, so maybe something in literature or journalism."

"A writer," Michael said with a smile. "That's a noble profession. The world needs more good storytellers."

They talked for hours that night, sharing stories about their lives and dreams. By the time they said goodnight, Sarah felt like she had made a real friend — someone who understood her ambitions and supported them.
