Test Novel Chapter 2

Chapter 2: The Discovery

1326 words

Three weeks had passed, and Eleanor had made no progress with the mysterious symbols. She had consulted colleagues at Oxford, Cambridge, and even the British Museum, but none had encountered anything similar.

Her office was now cluttered with reference books, printouts, and empty coffee cups. The university had sent two reminders about the upcoming exhibition, and she was beginning to feel the pressure.

It was on a rainy Thursday evening that everything changed. Eleanor was alone in the library, as had become her habit, when she noticed something peculiar about the manuscript. In certain light, the symbols appeared to glow faintly.

She adjusted her desk lamp, moving it closer to the page. The glow intensified, and she could now see what appeared to be a map beneath the text—a map of somewhere she had never seen before.

"Impossible," she whispered, grabbing her camera to document what she was seeing.

As she photographed the page, her hands trembling slightly, she heard a sound. It was faint at first, like the whisper of wind through an open window. But there were no open windows in the library.

The sound grew louder, forming what sounded almost like words. Eleanor pressed her ear closer to the manuscript, straining to understand.

"Find us," the whispers seemed to say. "Find us before it's too late."
