Chapter 9: The Test

March brought the mid-year examinations, and with them, enormous pressure. Sarah had never been a strong test-taker, and the thought of finals made her anxiety spike.

"You'll do fine," Emma assured her. "You're one of the smartest people I know."

"Being smart and being good at tests are two different things," Sarah replied nervously.

Michael, ever the practical one, suggested a study schedule. "If we break it down into manageable chunks, it won't seem so overwhelming."

The three of them — Sarah, Emma, and Michael — formed a study group that met every evening in the library. They quizzed each other, debated concepts, and shared notes. Mr. Harrison even allowed them to use the private study rooms usually reserved for faculty.

The weeks leading up to exams were grueling. Sarah barely had time to write, which made her anxious. She needed the creative outlet more than ever during stressful times.

"Take a break," Mr. Harrison advised one evening when he found her looking exhausted over her books. "Sometimes the best thing you can do for your studies is to step away and let your mind rest."

Sarah took his advice and spent the evening writing in her journal instead of studying. The words flowed freely, and she realized that writing was not just a hobby — it was a necessity for her mental health.

When exam week finally arrived, Sarah felt more prepared than she had expected. The study group had covered all the material, and her practice essays had given her confidence in her analytical skills.

The exams were challenging but fair. Sarah found that she could apply the critical thinking skills she had developed through her writing to answer even the most difficult questions. When the results came in, she had achieved straight A's across all her subjects.

"I knew you could do it!" Emma cheered when they saw the results.

Sarah grinned. "We did it. All of us."
